This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday 16th June. We’ve compiled a list of fun activities you can enjoy with the father figure in your life. Be sure to celebrate the day in style!
1. Foxlake Adventures
Located near the John Muir Way in Dunbar, is Foxlake Adventures – Scotland’s first cable wakeboarding park and the UK’s only rope course constructed over water. If your Dad is more of the adventurous type, here he can try his hand at wakeboarding – a cross between surfing and snowboarding. Taster sessions and beginner lessons are available if you fancy getting wet and wild!
2. Father’s Day Fun at The Roxburghe
On Father’s Day this year, the shooting school at the Roxburghe in Kelso are hosting a Father’s Day Fun event. Here you will have the opportunity to learn the art of clay pigeon shooting alongside your Dad. You will be fitted with a shotgun and shown proper stance and gunmount techniques while firing at a range of flying targets. Also on offer is a Tomahawk throwing session. Take aim and have a go at throwing Norse axes and steel ‘angels’ at the targets. Heads up!
3. Take a tour at the Borders Distillery
Hawick is home to the first scotch whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837 and first opened its doors last year in March. Book a tour for you and your Dad and witness the whisky production in action. Learn about the mashing, fermentation, & distillation processes while finishing the tour off with a dram in the gallery.
4. Surf Lessons at St. Vedas
If your Dad is keen to don the wetsuit then surfing at Coldingham Bay is definitely a must! St.Vedas Surf Shop offer lessons with wetsuits, surf boots, and surfboards all provided. Hot food and drinks are available at the beach cafe should you need something to warm you up afterwards! Kayaks, bodyboards, and snorkels are also available for hire from the shop.
5. Beer Festival at the Allanton Inn
The Allanton Inn are hosting their annual Garden Party and Beer Festival on Friday 14th June – which has proven to be very popular in past years! The event is running all weekend filled with a hog roast, a BBQ and live music from local bands Huffman & Spence and The Coostie Folk. Not forgetting a whole host of real ales, ciders, cocktails & even a gin bar. If the weather stays fair, it will be a grand weekend to relax in the beer garden with a roll and a pint!
6. A game of frisbee golf at ReBoot Disc Golf
ReBoot Disc Golf is located in Dunbar and has been running since the summer of 2013. If you after something a bit different then frisbee golf is the perfect activity for you and your Dad. Much like regular golf the game is played on 9 or 18 hole courses, but without the club and balls. ReBoot has two 18 hole courses – the family friendly Green course and the Blue championship course if you are looking for a challenge. Some say golf is a good walk spoiled but we reckon frisbee golf is definitely more exciting!
