This blog was going to be focused on activities to go and do with your mum but with the current situation we are facing, we’ve put a spin on it! Instead, we’ve come up with a list of ideas to do indoors on Mother’s Day while you’re self isolating!
Learn a new craft
Why not sit down and learn a new skill with your mum? How about hand knitting or crochet? There are millions of videos on YouTube dedicated to every topic with easy-to-follow demonstrations!
Check out fellow Scottish Borders knitter Flora from Collingwood-Norris! She repairs knitwear with gorgeous visible mending techniques! Perhaps you could both try your hand at breathing life into a beloved holey garment? Check out the tutorials on Flora’s website!
Have a movie day
A perfect excuse for a movie day! Light the fire, get cuddled up on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn and watch your favourite films together! Or how about that series you’ve been meaning to start for awhile?
Ready, Steady, Bake!
Crack a few eggs and whip up your mum’s favourite bake. Chocolate cake, biscuits, or scones! Get the recipe book out or find something new to try out online. Check out the BBC Good Food’s picks for Mother’s Day ideas!
Not much of a baker? The Dessert Diva is offering free delivery to those in the Kelso area who are self isolating. Their brownies are divine!
A relaxing pamper day!
You may not be able to visit this spa on Mother’s Day but you can bring the spa to you! Experiment with homemade face masks and give each other a pedicure all in the comfort of your own home!
Hand-washing is really important, however it can be hard on your hands. We love using Isle of Skye Seaweed Co‘s Wild Seaweed and Mango Butter Balm. Plus with every order on their website, you’ll get yourself a free lip balm – bonus!
Picnic in the garden
We think it’s more important than ever to get some fresh air! You don’t have to go far, pack up a picnic of your mum’s favourite foods and enjoy it in the garden. However, check the weather first!
Virtual tour of museums
Did you know you can take virtual tours right from the comfort of your sofa? Google Arts & Culture have collated over 2000 museums and galleries from around the world which you can enjoy without even stepping onto a plane. Explore the Museum of Modern Art in New York and then make your way to the Palace of Versaille in France. We’re going to check out all the Textiles museums!
Discover talent online
Our favourite local artist Hannah Longmuir creates beautiful hand-drawn designs which are sold as original art, prints, stationery and mugs. We love this Mother’s Day card featuring a Mama Goose and her chick, which can of course be given on any day of the year. Hannah’s artwork is a ray of sunshine in this time of uncertainty. Follow her on Instagram for frequent updates on her work.
On a positive note
We hope this blog post acts as some light relief in this ever-changing time. Our workshop is currently closed but we are still active online so if you have any queries or fancy a wee chat, feel free to ping us an email or message us on Facebook and Instagram.
