Hello, thanks for visiting Wonky Woolies!
Yair pompom hat
A hat inspired by the Yair forest, where we love walking our dog and riding the bike trails. As the seasons change, we are in awe of the colours on display in the forest. From the wild flowers on the forest floor, to the dense trees and vast sky, it is a very beautiful place.
Our Yair pompom hat is a timeless design which we have knit using colours from the Supersoft range of wool from Knoll Yarns.  Each hat features a special marled yarn, that we have sourced over the years of knitting. The block design splits four colours into sections, which are mixed in the pompom. In our workshop in Kelso, we knit each Yair hat individually on our hand knitting machine. It takes time, skill and patience to create each hand crafted hat. Once we have knit and hand finished each hat, we wash it to remove the lanolin and soften the wool.
Every year we like to create a new collection of Yair hats. Some colours are left over from commissions, and others have been collected elsewhere. It is fun to work with colour and to see how it transforms the design each time. Some of the speckled yarns are unrepeatable. This makes the collection limited in numbers, which makes each hat special for the wearer.
Choose wool
Wool is a sustainable choice as it is both renewable and biodegradable therefore, it decomposes within a matter of years releasing the nutrients back to the earth. As wool is naturally temperature regulating, it provides incredible insulation whilst remaining breathable. The Supersoft range from Knoll Yarns is produced from non-mulesed sources and the dyes conform to European REACH Standards.
Your Yair hat requires minimal care and it will last you a lifetime An occasional warm hand wash, followed by drying flat will refresh and reshape the hat over time.
