Our chunky knitted hats are handmade by Maw & Chief Wonky, individually crafted on our vintage knitting machine. They enjoy knitting these beanie hats using wool supplied by Knoll Yarns in Yorkshire, alongside special cones sourced throughout the years. In the description of each hat you can see the specific fibre content, some contain purely Shetland wool, others have some Cashmere included. In our micro factory in the Scottish Borders they knit each wool hat by hand in a mindful slow practice. It is a joy to knit the beanies in this rhythmic method. It provides a deep connection with the wool, satisfyingly transforming it into an item to wear and cherish.
Using our hand powered knitting machine enables us to create unique colour patterns on each hat. Once knitted, we join the seam by hand on the linker and then hand sew the ends. The final process is to wash the hat, which gently felts to wool and softens it.
The chunky wool beanie measures 32cm in length. This gives the option to turn it up once or twice to suit your individual style. The chunky knit hat is made with 100% wool that will naturally stretch over time. We have chosen not to add elastic to the edge of the beanie. We prefer our hats to be 100% wool which we have tested extensively over the years. To wash the hat simply hand wash in warm water and dry flat to freshen up and reshape. This hat is lightweight and fits comfortably under your hood.
