Yair pompom hat
A hat inspired by the Yair forest in the Scottish Borders, where we love to walk our dog and ride our bikes. As the seasons change, we visit often and are taken aback by the colours in the forest. From the wild flowers, to the dense trees and vast sky, it is a very beautiful place.
Our handmade Yair pompom hat is a timeless design, which we have knitted using colours from the Supersoft range of wool from Knoll Yarns.  Each hat also features a special marled yarn from our yarn stock, that we have collected over the years.
The Yair design is a block pattern which splits four colours into sections, all are also mixed in the pompom. In our workshop in Kelso, we knit each Yair hat individually on our hand knitting machine. It takes time, skill and patience to create them. Once the hat is finished, we wash it to remove the lanolin and soften the wool.
Every year we like to create a new collection of Yair hats. It is fun to work with colours, to see how they transform the design each time. Some of the speckled yarns are unrepeatable. This makes the collection limited in numbers, which makes each hat even more special for the wearer.
Choose wool
Wool is a sustainable choice as it is both renewable and biodegradable. It will decompose within a matter of years, releasing the nutrients back to the earth. As wool is naturally temperature regulating, it provides insulation whilst remaining breathable. The Supersoft range from Knoll Yarns is produced from non-mulesed sources and the dyes conform to European REACH Standards.
Your Yair hat requires minimal care and it will last you a lifetime An occasional warm hand wash, followed by drying flat will refresh and reshape the hat over time.
