2018 Awards

Last year Wonky Woolies were shortlisted for ‘Manufacturer of the year’ and ‘Micro business of the year’.

We were delighted to be awarded a highly commended certificate in the micro business category. This award, sponsored by NS24 Ltd, accounting and bookkeeping firm based in Galashiels, hangs proudly in our entrance hall.

Benefits of entering the awards

One benefit of entering awards is to bring recognition to your business. Depending on your chosen category, you can be aligned with major companies in your industry. Take Collingwood-Norris for example, who last year achieved finalist in the manufacturer of the year alongside Johnstons of Elgin. Huge congratulations to Flora, this highlights her fantastic contribution to Scottish textiles and UK manufacturing.

A further benefit of entering a business award is, it makes you look at your company differently. The process of completing an application and presenting it to a panel helps you view your business plan from another perspective. Sometimes even the process of writing it down, leaving it for a few days, then revising it can help you identify areas of improvement. I believe it’s good practice to do this.

Finally, being shortlisted at the Scottish Borders Business Excellence awards was a boost for our team. Everything that Wonky Woolies has achieved has happened with a strong team behind it. This is not only a reflection on our in-house team but also on the help provided by suppliers, support services and networks. Wonky Woolies has received a lot of advice over the years from business mentors, peer groups, government bodies, friends and family. It takes a lot of skill and experience to achieve goals in business.

In it to win it!

In conclusion, they say you’ve got to be in it to win it! To win an award this year would be fantastic. However, we also appreciate the wider benefits of promoting our business and we enjoy sharing our journey with you. Click here to get your entry in with the Chambers of Commerce. Good luck to all who take part!
