A sheep hat which is really a celebration of all things wool. Wonky the sheep is having a great time grazing in the field, a scene we see often here in the Scottish Borders. Sheep are hardy animals who thrive in the outdoors, a wool hat will help us to do the same.
We have knit our Wonky sheep hats with supersoft wool. Wool is the perfect fibre for a sheep hat, it is cosy, insulated and temperature regulating. All of our sheep hats are knitted in the raw state in our workshop in Kelso. Once we have hand finished them they go into the sheep dip to remove the lanolin and fluff up. It is during this process that the wool fibres in the pompom felt together and create a unique shape.
This wool is very easy to care for. Some people will never wash their wool hat in their lifetime, which is fine. Others like to wash their wool hats to help the fibres spring back into shape. If you are a washer, follow the care guide on the label. To find out more about lovely wool, read of our blog titled ‘Wool – myth busting‘.
