A bespoke order
We were delighted when Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon asked us to create a hat for Princess Charlotte. Being a gift from Scotland, we felt a unique tartan design would be fitting for the occasion.

Quoted from the Mail Online Nicola said: “The birth of a new baby is always an occasion which brings celebration and joy, and I’m happy to be marking the arrival of Princess Charlotte on behalf of the people of Scotland.
“The £50,000 will go towards two charities that work to make a significant difference to the lives of people across Scotland: Cash for Kids makes it its mission to help children achieve their full potential in life, while Turning Point Scotland is a charity which strives to help those who want to help themselves.
Why a Wonky hat?
When Nicola visited our workshop during International Women’s Day, she went home with a vibrant pink thistle hat. The First Minister was impressed with the quality of her hat, which made her think of us.
“We also want to make sure that Princess Charlotte is kept warm in her early years and will be sending a lovely personalised hat from Wonky Woolies. Being in the possession of one of the firm’s hats, I can personally vouch for their quality.
We chose Merino wool for Charlotte’s hat as it is super soft and has a luxurious finish. Once we’d designed the pattern, we used one of our domestic knitting machines to create it. This machine is operated by hand and selects the needles using our programmed patterns.
Hey that’s mine!
As each of one of us in our team has at least one sibling, we know all about rivalry! To avoid arguments, we made a personalised bobble hat for Prince George too. We hope the young royals love their new hats and we wish the whole family well.
